About John Dickinson

Born: 24 June 1962, London;

Educated: St Paul’s School London and Trinity College Oxford (I squeaked a First in History on viva, by talking about Aristotle and chariot races in Constantinople);

Career: I joined MOD in 1985, with spells at the Cabinet Office (1993-5) and NATO (1998-2002).  Most of what I did would be incomprehensible to the outsider, but at the Cabinet Office I was an analyst of international affairs and at NATO I spent some of my time helping countries in central and eastern Europe prepare to join the Alliance.  I left MOD in 2002 to become a house-husband, touchline Dad and writer;

Family: Married Pippa 1992. Daughter b. 1994, son b. 1997;

Home: Painswick, Gloucestershire: one of the most beautiful valleys in England;

I am also the household cook, a struggling tenor and treasurer for the parish church.
